THE HOLIDAYS: ANCHORS OF OUR SOUL

God is moving in and on the hearts of many Christians around the world, stirring a desire for a deeper understanding of the Old Testament and how it relates to the New Testament. A natural effect of this stirring is an increasing interest in God’s ordained feasts and their relevance in the lives of both Jewish and Gentile Christians today.

In the early years of my walk of faith, I was a bit confounded that there were no opportunities within the church to celebrate Jesus in the so-called Jewish holidays. I thought that celebrating the holidays seemed to perfectly combine my two cultures, Jewish and Christian.

I was wrong. The holidays transcend any culture. Because they are fixed in God’s character, His acts, and His plan of redemption, they belong to the Kingdom.

From the beginning, God planned to create a Kingdom community of men, women, children, both Jews and Gentiles.  He purposed that they would know, love and worship Him.  They would be diverse in language, tradition and culture, but they would be unified by faith in Jesus.

To keep them abiding in Him and with each other, He designed times for worship and celebration - the feasts of the Lord.. They would be times to remember who He is and what He had done.  Because God’s character never changes, as we remember the past we can rest knowing He is in control in our present circumstances and we can rejoice in His promises for our future.  Perhaps most importantly, trough His feasts, God revealed His plan of redemption through Jesus the Messiah.
